What is Moviestorm?

Moviestorm consists of a suite of easy-to-use movie-making tools which underpins a Web 2.0 social media service targeting both movie creators and viewers with support from major media and consumer brand owners.

The Moviestorm base engine gives content creators the ability to make 3D animated movies quickly and easily, using machinima technology. The base engine is available as a free download from the Moviestorm Web site, bundled with some free content (characters, props, sets, animations, etc).
Movie-makers will be able to expand their movie-making capabilities by purchasing additional content packs which we produce. We are developing a marketplace to allow third party content creators to produce content packs and sell them through us, and we are working with leading brand and IP owners to produce branded content packs and engage in an innovative form of product placement within user-generated video content.
Moviestorm includes a high-quality video hosting service which can deliver user-generated videos to the Web and in due course, mobile, and an online community where movie-makers can talk about their movies, find collaborators, and organise online events.

Moviestorm is a fully integrated complete solution that takes the user all the way from initial concept to finished, distributed movies. Its ease of use makes it accessible for first time movie-makers, while its advanced features and compatibility with existing tools make it suitable for pro-am users. It allows individuals and groups to create many different types of movies; from comedies, music videos, video blogs, soaps, drama and documentaries, through to high-quality complex movies that traditionally have only been affordable to fully funded film-makers.

Our goal is to make Moviestorm the ubiquitous platform of choice for animated movie production.

About Short Fuze

Short Fuze was founded in 2003 by Cambridge entrepreneurs Matt Kelland and Dave Lloyd. Short Fuze began researching into emerging forms of media, and in particular, innovative ways in which game technology could be applied to non-game environments and media.

The company has undertaken a wide variety of consultancy work, covering game design and production on a range of platforms, as well as Java programming and development. Short Fuze has also advised a number of academic institutions in the UK on setting up games-related courses, including the Game Art and Design BA course at Norwich School of Art and Design.

In summer 2004, the company began to focus on the field of Machinima. Their debut demo film, No Licence, received critical acclaim, and has been regularly shown at film festivals, game conferences, art installations and on television worldwide ever since. Building on this experience, Matt and Dave co-authored Machinima, with Dave Morris, (Ilex 2005) the first general interest book on the subject.

In autumn 2005, Short Fuze received investment from a consortium of private and institutional investors in order to found Moviestorm Limited and develop the Moviestorm community and the Moviestorm application.

Since then, the team has continued to grow, and has raised further funds to ensure that the Moviestorm product and the web community can be developed. Growing from two founders in April 2006, to a team of 5 by October 2006, the group is now (in April 2008) a team of 20 together with outsource partners, investors and commercial partners.
